School Excursions

A visit to Cape Otway Lightstation provides students with first-hand experience of life at Australia’s most significant lighthouse, including how the light guided ships through treacherous Bass Strait, ultimately saving many thousands of early immigrants’ lives.

Planning a facilitated or self-guided experience for your students, fully linked to Victorian curriculum F-10, is as easy as 1-2-3. We can also tailor programs for P-2, VCE Outdoor Education and Tertiary Tourism students.

Download our Victorian Curriculum F-10 curriculum map for an overview of the most relevant key learning area outcomes for levels 3&4, 5&6, 7&8, 9&10, making it super easy to match excursion activities/themes to student learning outcomes.

1. Choose the type of excursion experience (Lightstation Tour, Experience The Cape, or Self-Guided) that meets your students’ needs.

2. Mix and Match themes/topics that match your enquiry units or subjects, or choose one of our suggested Experience The Cape itineraries. Then use our resources/suggested activities to help your students tune-in.

3. Step back in time as you explore the rich history of the remote Cape Otway Lightstation precinct. We even have some links to useful websites for follow up activities.
